Instruments that are universal are designed to work comfortably on all teeth, front to back, for cleaning above the gumline. The Nevi instrument is a universal scaler/curette, crafted with blade geometry and a shank that allow effective calculus removal on both anterior and posterior surfaces without needing to switch tools. This versatility makes it well suited for supragingival instrumentation across the entire dentition.

In contrast, an anterior sickle scaler is specialized for anterior teeth and awkward on posterior surfaces; a Gracey curette 1/2 is area-specific for anterior surfaces and isn’t ideal for posterior work; and a Nabers probe is a periodontal probe used for probing, not for scaling or calculus removal. So the Nevi instrument best fits the need to instrument both anterior and posterior teeth supragingivally.
